Types of dentures
Whether you are missing one or more teeth, dentures are versatile enough to restore your smile. The following are the available denture options in our office.
- Complete dentures: These dentures are ideal for patients with extensive tooth loss, replacing an entire set of teeth in one arch or both. Full dentures consist of porcelain or acrylic teeth mounted on a gum-colored base. Dentures are held in place with dental adhesives or suction created by the mouth palate. However, if you want added stability, you can stabilize your dentures with implants anchored in the jawbone. Implant-supported dentures are secure, so don’t expect them to slip or fall out when eating or talking.
- Partials: When you have lost a few teeth in the mouth, you don’t need a complete set of dentures. Partial dentures comprise a set of prosthetic teeth custom-made to span a gap between two healthy teeth. They are secured to the nearby teeth with detachable metal clasps. However, you can opt for implants for enhanced stability.
The process of replacing your missing teeth with dentures
Restoring your smile with dentures involves several trips to the dentist. During the first visit, we’ll examine your smile to determine your suitability for dentures. We’ll also discuss your current smile concerns and goals and expectations to devise a personalized treatment plan.
If you are a prime candidate for dentures, we’ll take digital scans of your teeth and gums to ensure your final customized restoration fits and aligns comfortably. Fabricating your dentures takes a few days, as the dental lab meticulously handcrafts your restoration to match your teeth’s shape, color, alignment, and aesthetics.
Once we receive your dentures, you’ll come to our office to pick them up. We’ll try your dentures and make a few adjustments until they fit comfortably. It will take a few days to get used to your denture. However, after the adjustment period, you’ll speak, eat, and smile like you never lost teeth!
